Language Arts
This year, in language arts, we will be working on building literacy fluency in reading and writing. On a daily basis, students will be taking part in the Daily 5 – a student-driven management structure designed to engage students in reading and writing. The five components of the Daily 5 are reading to self, reading to someone, listening to reading, working on writing, and word work. Periodically throughout the year, we will be reading novels as a whole class or in small groups and partaking in discussion about the text to build strong comprehension skills. Students will be introduced to new vocabulary everyday and exposed to different genres of literature. The texts read in class will serve as models for the writing the students will be completing.
