In this chapter, we will explore the three colonial regions of the 13 British colonies. We will look at the New England Colonies, Middle Colonies, and Southern Colonies as a whole to identify regional patterns in geography, economy, and government. After looking at the bigger picture, we will zoom in to look at 6 specific colonies more closely: Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Georgia. Students will use atlases in addition to the text to examine features of each of the colonies. The chapter will conclude with students creating a billboard to advertise one of the 6 colonies we studied. The students will present their billboards to the class and try to persuade the class to visit the colony. By the end of the chapter, all students should be able to answer the chapter focus question: How were the three colonial regions alike and different?
