In this chapter, we will examine the influence of slavery on West Africa, the colonies, and the economy. We will explore three dilemmas that faced slaves in Africa, during the Middle Passage, and in the colonies. We will also discuss the underground railroad and complete a class freedom quilt. Throughout the chapter, we will be engaging in numerous activities to better help the students understand the context of the time period when slavery prevailed as a major part of the global economy. These activities include African tribal meetings, a triangular trade simulation, and an underground railroad virtual simulation. By the end of the chapter, all students should be able to answer the chapter focus question: What was the impact of slavery on Africans?
